2003 Photo Day
Nebraska Cornhuskers - Lincoln, NE
08/23/2003

This is LB Bo Ruud from Lincoln Southeast Here new OL addition Darren DeLone takes a moment to allow Darth one clear shot at him, rather than poking in between kids for a pop shot

Here Stevo quizzes JUCO RE newcomer Wali Muhammed from Bloomfield, NJ about the comfort level of the stadium seat Wali Muhammed #57 is all smiles while signing a ball for a fan

Wali gives Stevo that "are you serious???" look.  Stevo gets that a lot at these events Here DL Brandon Teamer hands over a newly-minted family treasure.  Events like this allow fans a rare chance to mingle with the athletes

Here #51 Bo Ruud from Lincoln Southeast appears to be creating a piece of original artwork mounted on a cardboard Andy Birkel, #19, doesn't look at all like a serious playmaker.  Let's hope opponents don't realize it until it is too late.  He is

DT Brandon Teamer (foreground) from Omaha Central and WR Andy Birkel from not Lincoln East sign autographs Here Andy Birkel poses for a photo while behind him TE Josh Mueller from Columbus, NE focuses on the task at hand

TE recruit J.B. Phillips from Colleyville, TX signs a ball for an adoring fan Josh Mueller, #81, seems like a quiet, serious guy.  You have to give him credit for having hair, though, because most new guys don't

Unlucky #13 is Cory McKeon, the outside linebacker from Naperville, IL Under the stands newly-renumbered QB JLo (#5) signed autographs for the long line of fans, and appeared to be relaxed and comfortable

Future star QB Joe Dailey practices his active listening skills with a fan.  Joe is from Jersey City, NJ Gary Pike poses for photos with a young fan.  The new format placing athletes under the stadium got people out of the heat, but hampered pictures

His attention waning, Joe gets down to signing autographs This is one of the rare open shots I got of a lineman, because it was tough getting to them.  Sorry about the bad pose, Gary

JUCO transfer CB Donald DeFrand signs a poster for a fan I had to get a photo of this.
Richie Incognito had his tongue hanging out each time he signed an autograph.  It was too funny

When I asked Donald to refer to oSu's All-American receiver Rashaun Woods as his %$#@ on my sheet, he politely refused Always somewhat baby-faced, I think Richie's new hair makes him look even more so.  Don't let the face fool you, because #51 is a balla

RE recruit Chris Patrick from Ithaca, Michigan gives Darth that "not another photo!" look OL Jake Andersen (#71) and Nick Povendo (#69) figure to be a major part of the 2003 O-line

Chris seems much happier to sign an autograph, probably hoping Darth will take his camera and just leave Josh Sewell (#79) has worked his way to a starting position at Center from walk-on status.  He deserves a photo for that, even if it is squeezed in

This is CB recruit Adrain Turner from Terrell, TX Jemayel "Big Smoothh" Phillips (#77) takes up the entire frame.  This redshirted freshman OL figures to be a big part of the line for a long time

Here Adrain ponders his decision to come to Nebraska, wondering if the photo day at Texas A&M is as bad Here redshirt freshman RE Adam Carriker signs an autograph while Tyler Toline (#93) looks for another chance to hit him with the marker

This is DE Lane Kelly, who I don't know where he's from because the media guide doesn't include him on the official roster Tyler Toline, full of animation, was demonstrating something to his neighbor

This is OL newcomer Greg Austin from Cypress, Texas If the 2003 defense is going to be any good, RE and team captain Trevor Johnson (#88) will need to be a big part of it

Here Greg wonders the same thing Chris Patrick did earlier: when will Darth leave and take the camera with him This is quite possibly the worst photo I have ever taken.  That's why I put it up, though it does feature Titus Adams and Benard Thomas

Brett Byford, #59, is a rookie OL from Hartselle, AL Here's a much better shot of RE's Titus Adams and Benard Thomas.

Here JUCO OL Darren DeLone signs an autograph for a young fan DL Ryon Bingham and #95 Nathan Krug sign autographs for the endless line of fans under the north stands

More writing for DeLone.  He probably wonders if this is some sort of punishment for arriving later than the others DL Le Kevin Smith knows how to do it.  He wins the contest for the best hat among the linemen.
